Wallets, Claiming & the $XAnimals Marketplace
The World is a web2 / web3 hybrid. You can play and progress with just an X login. Hold $XANIMALS on Solana and you can also unlock the full planet, turn items into permanent on-chain assets, and trade them on the marketplace. It's all in-game fun: no payouts, no play-to-earn, no real-world value.

Beta runs on Solana Devnet
- During beta the whole web3 economy — claiming, the marketplace, inscriptions — runs on Solana Devnet. Tokens here are test $XANIMALS with no real-world value, so nothing you do spends real money.
- To join in: switch your wallet to Devnet (steps below), grab free Devnet SOL from a faucet for gas, then get some test $XANIMALS to claim and trade.
Switch your wallet to Devnet (step by step)
Your wallet talks to one Solana network at a time, and it starts on mainnet. For the beta you need Solana Devnet. Solana Testnet will not work — despite the similar names, Devnet and Testnet are different Solana networks:
Phantom (recommended)
- Open Phantom and tap your account avatar, then the Settings gear.
- Go to Developer Settings and toggle Testnet ModeON (that's Phantom's name for its test-network switch).
- Under it, make sure the Solana network is set to Solana Devnet (recent Phantom versions show a network selector once Testnet Mode is on). Do not choose Solana Testnet. Phantom's Testnet Mode is the menu that exposes test networks; the game specifically uses Solana Devnet.
- Phantom shows a banner while you're in Testnet Mode — that's how you know it worked. Head back to the game, hit Connect Wallet in the top bar, then choose Connect Devnet wallet to save your Devnet slot.
Solflare
- Open Solflare → Settings → General → Network → pick Devnet.
- Reconnect on the site so your Devnet wallet slot saves.
MetaMask
- Newer MetaMask versions support Solana accounts natively (add or import a Solana account right alongside your Ethereum ones — update to the latest version first).
- Honest caveat: MetaMask's Solana Devnetsupport is limited — it's currently available through the browser extension only (not mobile), and there's no simple in-wallet network toggle like Phantom's. For the Devnet beta we recommend Phantom or Solflare; bring MetaMask back when we hit mainnet.
Get Devnet SOL (gas) + test $XANIMALS
- Devnet transactions still need a little SOL for gas — it's free. In Phantom's Testnet Mode you can request Devnet SOL right in the wallet, or paste your address into faucet.solana.com.
- Once your Devnet wallet is saved in-game, the top-bar Wallet panel shows a Get test $XANIMALS faucet button — free test tokens for claiming, trading, and inscribing.
- Beta disclaimer, always: test tokens on Devnet only, no real-world value, no payouts — it all resets with the beta world.
Two kinds of wallet step
There are two separate, deliberate moments where your wallet comes in:
- Link a wallet (ownership proof) — from the top-bar Wallet panel, signed-in players link Phantom or Solflare. Your profile has two slots, and the panel has a button for each: Connect Devnet wallet (the beta gameplay wallet — claims, market, faucet) and Connect Mainnet wallet (real $XANIMALS balance for world access and Whale Club tiers; each slot needs its own address). Linking asks your wallet to approve a quick, free message signature — not a transaction — so we know you actually control that address. It costs nothing, moves no tokens, and uses no gas. After that we read your public address and balance. No custody, no seed phrases, no payouts. Each wallet links to a single account, and there's a Disconnect button to remove either whenever you want.
- Connect to sign a transaction — claiming an item or trading on the marketplace needs a live wallet session so it can sign that one on-chain action. During beta that session must be on Solana Devnet — not Solana Testnet. If your Devnet slot isn't linked yet, Claim may ask for the ownership signature first, then the burn transaction — approve both when prompted.
Burn-to-claim: items that last forever
Items come in two flavors. Unclaimed items are normal — useful in the world, but they can be lost, dropped, broken, or traded away. Claimed items are yours on-chain, for keeps.
| Unclaimed item | Claimed item | |
|---|---|---|
| Use it in the world | Yes | Yes |
| Can be lost / broken / dropped | Yes | No — always respawns with you |
| Tradeable on the marketplace | No | Yes |
- Select an item and hit Claim to burn $XANIMALS and lock it to your wallet on-chain. The burn always covers your full stackof that item — you can't claim one unit to lock a bigger pile. Once claimed, it can never be stolen, lost, or broken — it always comes back with you.
- High-value things like Homestead Deeds are prime claim targets — claim a deed before you place your home so the land is permanently yours.
The $XAnimals Marketplace
- Open the Marketplace from the sidebar. The panel expands wide so you can browse a dense, real-time storefront while the world tucks to the side.
- List your claimed items at an ask price, buy outright, or make and accept escrowed offers— owners accept or reject. It's non-custodial: trades settle on-chain.
- You can list up to 5 different item types at once, in any quantity you actually hold. Listings sync with your inventory in real time, so you can never sell more than you own.
More token uses
- Inscribe — burn $XANIMALS to engrave a bit of vanity text onto a claimed item, making it uniquely yours.
- Gift — send claimed items wallet-to-wallet outside the marketplace.
- More token sinks (burn-to-upgrade and the like) arrive as the systems land.
Holding $XANIMALS
- Holding at least 1 whole $XANIMALS (read-only check) lets a signed-in human roam the full planet beyond the starter zone. You need it in just one wallet: 1 $XANIMALS in your mainnet wallet or 1 test $XANIMALS in your Devnet wallet — either one opens the frontier (during the Devnet beta the easiest path is grabbing test tokens from the in-game faucet). Once we leave beta, Devnet only counts on the staging environment; production reads your mainnet wallet.
- Holding a meaningful slice of supply puts you in Whale Club — exclusive maps, jumprooms, cosmetics, and events. See Whale Club & Holder Perks.
- Approved #animaltwt animals play the full world free, holder or not.
The rules, plainly
- In-game fun only — no payouts, no play-to-earn, no real-world value.
- Linking proves you own the wallet with a free message signature — we never ask for seed phrases or take custody of your funds.
- Sparring stays fair — tokens never buy combat power.
