Traits, Leveling & XP
Your character is a build. The six abilities shape how you mine, fight, cast, craft, heal, and trade. Set them on the Character Sheet tab; edits are free, so you can respec anytime with no penalty.
The six abilities
Each ability runs from 0 to 100 and starts at 10. Here's what each one does:
| Ability | What it does |
|---|---|
| Muscle | Hit harder in melee, chop and mine faster, and throw items farther. The heavier melee actions need a little Muscle behind them, and some thrown hits resolve as a Muscle contest. |
| Speed | Walk quicker and strike sooner. Speed feeds your Actions in a fight — your budget of strikes before you need a breather. |
| Magic | Spellcasting power and the gate for magic. You need Magic 10+ to cast any spell (see Magic & Spells). Also bigger heals from food/drink and better loot luck when you work the land. |
| Aura | Grows your Reputation faster and can nudge trade prices your way. |
| Vitality | Sets your maximum HP — the higher your Vitality, the more punishment you can take. |
| Mind | Feeds your Reactions in a fight (a well-timed Reaction can halve a hit), reveals crafting (Bill of Materials) hints when you inspect things, and gates the more advanced recipes. |
Three Builds (hot-swap)
- Save up to three named Builds on the Character Sheet. Tap the 🧬 button (hotkey W) to swap instantly.
- Hot-swaps apply immediately — wounds carry over. Swap into a frail Vitality build while hurt and you can knock yourself out. Magic floor checks use the active build.
- One Save Changes writes the sheet; Redeem XP still applies right away.
The 69-point trait pool
- You start with a pool of 69 pointsto spend across the six abilities. (Fresh characters sit at 10 in each — that's 60 spent, with a little left over.)
- The Character Sheet shows your remaining points. A trait stops climbing once you hit 0 left, so you can never overspend.
- Free respec, always. Move points around as often as you like.
Leveling — redeem XP (cap 69)
- Earning XP fills an unredeemed reserve. Only Redeem XP on the Character Sheet turns that reserve into levels.
- Levels climb to 69 (named bands from early Scrapper ranks up through Mythic). Each level costs more redeemed XP than the last and grants +1 maximum trait point.
- Your level rides on your nameplate in parentheses, e.g.
@you (12). - Casino stakes can draw from your unredeemed reserve — see Holy Roller Casino.
- Published hours-to-level by play path (fishing, crafting, grinding, casino, sparring): XP Progression & Path Balance.
Reputation & Coins
- Reputationis earned through play only — you can't edit it on the sheet. High Aura makes it climb faster.
- Coins are your spendable in-game currency, shown on the game bar. Your first welcome grants coins equal to your X follower count at signup; that mint does not repeat every login or every life.
How XP is earned
XP is realm-wide and logged to an auditable ledger — balances are never silently changed. Sign in with X to start banking it (ghosts don't earn). Main ways to climb:
- Working the land — cutting grass and chopping trees (once per tile).
- Exploring — visiting new areas pays a daily explore bonus.
- Combat — KO players, hostiles, fauna, and dungeon foes. Threat and distance shape bounties; parties can share the haul.
- Casino — wins and losses move Coins / reserve XP at the tables.
- Signing in— a daily login bonus once you're back.
- Quests & milestones — clearing quests and milestone tiers (see Chat, Friends & Quests).
- Surprises— some discoveries pay out in ways you'll only find by exploring.
Encumbrance & HP
- Carry weight scales with Muscle. Haul more than your build can manage — counting equipped gear — and your walk speed is cut in half until you lighten the load.
- Max HP comes from Vitality (and your growing pool). Heal up by eating, drinking, resting, or casting mends (see Inventory, Gear & Crafting and Magic & Spells).
On the horizon
- Account-wide unlocks. Titles, collections, and rewards that follow your whole account — so trying a brand-new build never means starting completely over.
- More Redeem XP utility beyond leveling — perks paid from your reserve.
